Great Seasons For Gator Softball, Baseball
Despite having to absorb tough losses that ended their seasons prematurely, the University of Florida softball and baseball teams had terrific seasons. The Gator softball team did fall short of its goal of winning a national title but finished as the national runnerup after making a second straight trip to the Women's College World Series. Florida won 133 games over the past two seasons behind one of the greatest pitchers in college softball history, Stacey Nelson.  more...

Gator Baseball Has Good Shot In Regionals
As I write this the University of Florida baseball team is set to begin postseason play, first in the SEC Tournament and then in an NCAA Regional and the Gators have a good shot at hosting that regional. I would not have thought that in the beginning of the year. Florida did not play defense well, its hitting was spotty and the pitching was inconsistent. Then came the SEC opening series with Arkansas and the Razorbacks immediately put the Gators in a hole with a sweep of three games in Fayetteville.  more...

Former University of Florida basketball star Nick Calathes was selected in the second round of the NBA Draft last night in New York. Calathes was taken by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 45th pick but his rights were then dealt to the Dallas Mavericks.   more...

Griffin Goes Number One In NBA Draft
As expected, University of Oklahoma center Blake Griffin was the first selection in the NBA Draft held Thursday night in New York, selected by the Los Angeles Clippers. Memphis chose second and took Connecticut center Hasheem Thabeet and Oklahoma City scooped up guard James Harden from Arizona State. Tyreke Evans was taken by Sacramento fourth and Minnesota took 18 year old guard Ricky Rubio fifth.   more...

Rays And Marlins Win Big; Braves Lose
The Tampa Bay Rays took two of three games from the Philadelphia Phillies in their rematch of the 2008 World Series after winning 10-4 Thursday. Willy Aybar had three hits and three runs to lead the Rays to the win. The Florida Marlins also won big, beating slumping Baltimore 11-3 as Hanley Ramirez homered, had three hits and drove in five runs. Meanwhile the New York Yankees beat Atlanta 11-7 as Johnny Damon and Alex Rodriguez each drove in four runs.   more...
