Dove World Outreach planned burning
The Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville still plans on burning Qurans on September 11th- and pastor Terry Jones remains adamant despite not having the proper permits to hold a bonfire at the church.
Jones says he hopes the bonfire will teach people how violent Islam really is.
Oil Regulations Conference
Law students at the University of Florida had the opportunity to hear two professors views on the laws and regulations regarding the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, yesterday. Levin College of Law’s Dean Emeritus John Mills & Professor Alyson Flournoy discussed the issues involved with the handling of the spill.
9/11 Memorial
The University of Florida College Republicans set up their annual nine-eleven memorial display to honor the lives lost in the attack nine years ago . The display is home to three thousdand flags all arranged by twenty volunteers from the College Republicans and the Network of Enlighted Women on the lawn at the Plaza of the Americas.
President Bernie Machen has new goals for University Policy
After receiving advice from a local law firm, University of Florida President Bernie Machen says he has new goals for several key areas in university policy. The law firm Margolis, Healy and Associates issued a report providing insight on issues like University law enforcement and mental health services.
Game Day Security
It will be the normal procedure when the University of Florida plays the University of South Florida Saturday. The Dove World Outreach Center is planning to burn the Koran Saturday, but University Police Spokesman Jeff Holcomb says they have no reason to change their procedures.
Emergency Room Study
A new study suggests that more Americans are heading to the emergency room for common ailments. Administrative director of emergency services at North fFlorida Regional Medical Center Pam Thorton thinks the emergency room is often the only option for people who don’t have insurance or a primary care physician. She says, North florida regional is trying to inform patients of their options.

Quran Burning Safety
Protests have made it all the way to the streets of Kabul, Afghanistan…. but the Gainesville Police Department is doing what they can to control the crowd expectd to form when the Dove World Outreach Center burns a quran this Saturday.
"Milk Party" Comes to Gainesville
The Children’s Movement of Florida plans to hold a “Milk Party” rally in Gainesville on Wednesday to raise awareness about Florida’s need to make children a priority. The Children’s Movement of Florida is holding 15 rallies across the state in an attempt to show policymakers they need to make children, especially health insurance for kids, a priority in their decisions.
UF Grad Dies in Service
The family of a University of Florida Graduate is waiting for his body to return home after he was killed overseas while serving with the Peace Corps. 24-year-old Tom Maresco of Port Saint Lucie, FL was shot and killed Friday in an attempted robbery in the African nation of Lesotho.
Day of Difference
University of Florida students have the opportunity to change a child’s life in one day by teaching them business principles. Registration is open until this friday to all UF students who want to volunteer to be a teacher for elementary school children in alachua county for “Day of Difference”.
