The High Springs Farmers Market's Seasonal Saturday Farmers Market will be taking advantage of cooler mornings (and avoiding hotter afternoons) by changing its hours of operation on Saturday only to 9am to 1pm. The market previously operated from 11am to 3pm. The Seasonal Saturday Market will operate every Saturday through July and then resume again in the Spring. Also, in order to give our hard working volunteers a respite from the heat, the market booth (red tent) will only be operating on Thursdays. The market is located in James Paul Park in downtown High Springs. Access and parking is available from Main Street at NW 2nd Avenue, NW 2nd Street, and NW 1st Avenue (Hwy 27) at City Hall (110 NW 1st Avenue.) The Ocala Civic Theatre presents its summer teen musical "All Shook Up." A celebration of Florida’s springs will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, at Poe Springs Park in High Springs.
The Springs Celebration, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature displays and activities designed to demonstrate the importance of Florida’s springs and to foster appreciation and respect for these natural resources.
The celebration is sponsored by the St. Johns River Water Management District, Alachua County Environmental Protection Department, Santa Fe Springs Working Group, North Central Florida YMCA, and Current Problems Inc.
Highlights include educational interactive water activities and live animal exhibits, as well as live music for all ages by Patchwork, Dale Crider, Bob Patterson and Palm Valley.
Parking and admission to the park are free throughout the event.

The North Florida JDRF is hosting its annual Miracles in the Moonlight Gala Ball on Saturday, September 20, 2008. The theme for the evening is "Broadway on the Riverbank" and will be held at the Hyatt Regency. They will be honoring Peter Bragan Jr. and Sr., owners of the Jacksonville Suns Baseball team. There will be dinner, dancing, and silent and live auctions. Tickets are $150 per person and a table of 10 is $2500. Sponsorships are available. Currently running art exhibits:*The Florida Museum of Natural History will display "Namibia: The Smile of Africa," a collection of African-inspired works by Gainesville artist Mary Jane Volkmann, April 3- Aug.3. The exhibit includes a number of new and original oil paintings, prints of the artist's work and five issues of postage stamps. Volkmann will discuss the background on the pieces in her exhibit with museum visitors and elaborate on concepts from "Inside Africa" at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7 during a scheduled "Living Exhibit" talk. Challenging and thought-provoking, each work on display uses water as a symbol for many concepts including family, identity, violence and spiritual transformation.
